Delhi is the ‘Dhadkan’ of our country, India, and it hosts people from around the globe. It is one of the busiest capital states of India and is also the capital of our country. The Indian government, which resides in this place, makes all of its important declarations and decisions here. All the heart-pleasing and heartbreaking news comes from this very city of Delhi which was earlier carrying a spoiled image because of its unsafe environment for the people residing in it.

1. Qutub Minar

 

 

This five-storey minaret is one of the famous monuments in Delhi. It comes among the most visited monumental places in the city. The founder of Delhi sultanate Qutub-Ud-Din-Aibak had built it. The minaret is 73 meters high and has five Storeys.

It is famous for the brickwork on its pillars and arches. The tower tapers have a 14.3 meters (42 feet) base diameter reduced to 27 meters (9 feet) at the top of the peak.

The whole tower contains a spiral staircase of 379 steps and is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 

The railway station nearest to the minaret is the Old Delhi railway station. 

The metro station nearest to the minaret is the Qutub Minar metro station.

2. Red Fort

 

 

The fort is a historical monument in Delhi. Emperor Shah Jahan built this beautiful fortress in the year 1638. The fortress is also part of a World Heritage Site. The entrance of the fort is called Lahori Gate and includes two main halls, namely The Diwan-e-Khas and the Rang Mahal.

Delhi’s Red Fort is the place where the Nehru JI made his first speech to independent India, and Mughal emperors ruled. Its original colour is white, and the fort is made of red sandstone walls, which stand 75 feet high.

It is situated near Netaji Subhash Marg, Chandni Chowk. The railway station nearest to it is the Old Delhi railway station. The metro station nearest to it is Chandni Chowk Metro Station. This beautiful fortress is spread over 256 acres of area.

The fort is also called by the name of Lal Qila. There are some hotels near the fort, like Premier Hotel, Diwan-E-Shahi, and other 2- & 3-star hotels.

 

3. Akshardham Temple Delhi

 

 

The temple is famous for its archaeological history and architecture. The temple is an abode of Lord Swaminarayan, and it opens between the timings 10:00 am to 8:00 pm. The metro station nearest to it is Akshardham station on Noida – bounded blue line.

Photography of any sort is not allowed inside the temple premises. The Guinness Book of World Records has recorded this very temple to be the largest Hindu temple of the era so far. Lord Swaminarayan’s idol, along with 20,000 deities, rests in the temple.

There are some regulations which one has to keep in mind while entering the temple premises and they are: one should wear clothes which cover the shoulder, neck, legs and navel. Food from outside is not allowed and only vegetarian food is available inside it. There are some famous hotels near the temple which you can choose if you wish to visit Delhi.

 4. India Gate

 

 

Whenever we hear of India Gate, a picture comes in front of us, which is that of the Prime Minister delivering a speech on Republic Day and the parade which is conducted there every year. It has also been recognized as the symbol of the largest war memories.

The holy flame at Amar Jawan Jyoti was ignited by the then PM Indira Gandhi in the year 1972 on 26th January. You can also find the names engraved on the walls at India Gate. The monumental piece of architecture also tells us about the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country.

The metro station nearest to it is Secretariat Metro Station which falls on the yellow line.

5. Museum of Illusion, Delhi

 

 

This beautiful museum is situated in Connaught Place in New Delhi. There are many things, like a room with no gravity, a hologram, and rooms with mirrors that distort reality. There are many other activities like building blocks, mathematical games and impossible knots.

One can easily reach there by metro, but if you want to self-drive to the place, you can even take a car on rent. The nearest metro station to the museum is Rajiv Chowk on the blue line which is about 2 minutes away.

6. Lotus temple

 

 

This magnanimous lotus-shaped temple has been a highlight of Delhi tourists for a long time. A look-alike of it is also situated in Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh. The temple has no idol to pray or worship and promotes the practice of praying for the energy which is surrounding us. The prayer timings are between 10:00 am – 12:00 pm and 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm.

The temple is built of white Greek marble. Lotus is common in all religions like Hinduism, Islam, Jainism, and Buddhism, so people from all religions can come here and worship. All nine doors of the temple open into a central hall where a gathering of 2500 people can sit at a time. The nearest metro station to it is Kalkaji of violet line.
