Udaipur was established in 1559 by Maharana Udai Singh II of the Rajput dynasty, after which the Mughal Emperor Akbar captured the nearby Chittorgarh Fort. Udaipur is situated in the Aravalli range of Rajasthan and is surrounded by hills on three sides. The city is famous for its lakes like Pichola, Fateh Sagar, Uday Sagar and Dhebar Lake, etc. Udaipur is also famous for its temples like the Jagdish Temple, Eklingji Temple and Nathdwara. 1. Lake Pichola

 

 

The lake was established in 1362 AD by Pichu Banjara, a local tribal chief during the reign of Maharana Lakha. Later, Maharana Udai Singh II the founder of Udaipur, expanded the lake. It was named after him as Pichola Lake. This lake is an artificial freshwater lake situated in the city of Udaipur. It is one of the most popular lakes in Udaipur surrounded by eateries providing absolute delicious cuisines. There are many worth seeing places, some of them are:

  • Jagmandir – It was built by Maharana Karan Singh. It is located in the middle of the lake. It is also known as Lake Garden Palace.
  • Jag Niwas – It is a popular hotel. It is known as Lake Palace.
  • City palace – The city palace of Udaipur is situated on the Eastern Bank of Lake Pichola and offers stunning views of the lake.
  • Gangaur ghat – It is a very famous ghat on the Bank of the lake. Gangaur festival are celebrated here.
  • Ambrai Ghat – This ghat is famous for its sunset views over Lake Pichola and the city palace. Excursionists can enjoy boat lifts on Lake Pichola.

2. City Palace

 

 

It was built by Maharana Udai Singh II, the founder of Udaipur. The city palace is made of Rajasthani architecture, which has ornate domes, arcs, turrets and balconies. The city palace is divided into several places.

  • Amar Vilas – This uppermost level of the palace offers beautiful scene of Lake Pichola.
  • Mardana Mahal – It was the place where meeting was held for the countries.
  • Zenana Mahal – This place was belong to women.
  • Sheesh Mahal – It has number of mirrors and glass work.
  • Moti Mahal – It is known as Pearl Palace.

There was a museum, which has a collection of artefacts, royal garments, weapons, paintings and other historical items.

3. Jag Mandir

 

 

It is situated in Pichola Udaipur. It was built by Maharana Karan Singh, II, in  17th century. It is famous for its interiors and architectures. It is made of Mughal and Rajputs styles. It has marble domes and pavilion, which is surrounded by lake. It is also known as Jagmandir Island or Lake Garden Palace Island. Gulmahal, which is made of pink sandstone and showcases. Jagmandir, has courtyard with gardens and fountains. If you want to see Lake and Aravalli Hills, Darikhana is the best option for it. The visiting hours of the temple differs as per the season but general timings are from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM. The charge of adult is 325 rs. And for children is 165 rs.

4. The Monsoon Palace

 

 

It is situated near Mewar garh Hotel Udaipur. Maharana Sajjan Singh, who built the monsoon palace in 1884. The main purpose to build this to see the monsoon clouds. Sajangad Wildlife Sanctuary was also situated near this fort. It was home for deer, wild boars and species of birds. You can also watch setting sun because of its elevation. Its visiting hours are from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The charge of ticket is 10 rs for Indian and 80 rs for foreigners.

5. Fateh Sagar Lake

 

 

Fateh Sagar Lake was built by Maharana Jaisingh in 1678. It is one of the best lake in Udaipur. Most of the tourist come to watch it. The area of Fateh Sagar Lake is almost 2.4 square kilometre. It has three islands, which has their public park. If you want to reach there, you can go through by boat ride. You can also watch setting sun at the horizon. Fateh Sagar Lake provide jet skiing, boat ride and other water sports. You can visit the lake between 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. There is no charge of ticket.

6. Kumbhalgarh Fort

 

 

Kumbalgarh fort was built by Rana Kumbha in 1458 AD. The elevation of fort is 1100 metres above sea level. It has fortified walls. It spread 36 kilometres. It is also known as longest wall, after the Great Wall of China. Neelkanth Mahadev Temple is situated near the Fort. The Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary, which has species of wildlife. It is the home of leopards, Wild birds, birds species etc. The fort's visiting hours for tourists are from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The charge of ticket for Indians is 15 rupees. And for foreigners is 200 rs.

7. Shri Ek Ling Ji Temple

 

 

Ek Lingji Temple was built by Bappa Rawal in 734 AD. Bappa Rawal was the sovereign of the Mewar. It has four-faced idol of Ek lingji. The idle is 50 feet high. It is a double storied with a pyramid style roof and carved tower. Four face represents Lord Shiva named as Sadyojala, Vamdeva, Aghora and Tatpurusha.

The Morning aarti offer at 5:30 AM, 8:15 AM, 9:15 AM and 11:30 AM. And evening aarti is offered at 5:00 PM and 6:30 PM. Maha Shivratri is celebrated with great pomp and show by the devotees who offer prayers.

8. Shree Nathji Temple

 

 

Srinathji temple is situated in Nathdwara in the state of Rajasthan. The temple built in the 17th century by Goswami Priests. Srinathji temple belongs to Lord Krishna and the Nathdwara means gate of the Lord. The temple is made of Rajasthani and Mewari architecture. The painting is the life of Lord Krishna. Janmashtami is the most popular festival celebrated here. The idol of Srinathji is carved in black marble. It is second richest temple in India. It is famous for its dress in a new outfit everyday. The time of aarti is 5:15 AM, 7:15 AM, 9:15 AM, 11:15 AM, 3:30 PM, 4:45 PM, 5:15 PM and 6:50 PM.
