Kochi is commonly known as Cochin. It is one of the finest cities in Kerala state. Cochin has many wonders to its credit. It is located in the southwest coastal region of the state.

Kochi or Cochin is also known to by the name of “The Queen of Arabian Sea”.

Kochi is counted to be one the most exceptional natural harbour of the world. The city is also famous for the spices it provides worldwide. There are many places which is very popular like – Fort Kochi.

It also includes St. Francio Church, the first church of Vasco Da Gama, the Dutch Seminary, the China Vela. Idli Sambhar is the most popular food in Kerala.

Besides this there are many food items which are also popular in Kochi like – puttu Kadal, thatlu dosa, kappa bati, Elum kappa Yum, Meen mulakittathu curry etc. If you want to visit in Kochi October to February is the best time because the weather is moderate in this time.

It is about 10 km from Ernakulam.

There are three ways to reach there.

a.   By air – international airport is at Nedumbassery near Aluva, about 22 kms away from Erankulam Kochi.

b.   By railway – the nearest station is Erankulam junction.

c.   By road – KSRTC Bus station provide buses which run every time. you can get buses high court junction, railway station kaloon junction.

 

2.   Fishing villages –  the tourists can see Chinese fishing nets

 

If you are fish lovers and want to have boat ride in Kochi, it is the right place to fulfil your desire. It is a worth seeing place for tourists. It is said that nets were originally brought down from the royal courts of Kublai Khan, the great Chinese emperor

How to reach;

The nearest station – Erankulam town station, Erankulam junction station.

When you reach Kochi, you can take an autorickshaw, taxi or bus.

 

3.  Elephant Training Centre

 

 

If you want a big animal like – Elephant, you have to visit Kodanad village in Erankulam district in Kochi. All the elephants are washed and trained here. Most of the elephants play and roll in the water.

Address to reach the centre is – Vallom Panamkuzhi Road, Malayattoor, Kerala

Timings – 8 AM to 5 PM (Tuesday to Sunday )

How to reach – There is no direct connection from Kochi to Kondana.

You can take the subway to Aluva then take the taxi to Kondana.

 

4.  St. Francis Church

 

St. Francis Church is a worth seeing place in Kochi. It is built by the Europeans and by the Portuguese in 1503. It is the burial place for the Vasco Da Gama after his death in 1524.

Address – Head Post Office, St. Francis Church Road opp., Fort Kochi, Kerala.

Timings – 10 AM to 5PM (Monday to Saturday)

                 12PM to 5PM (Sunday)

How to reach – You can take bus or taxi to reach here. The bus ride from Erankulam town, which is nearly 13 km away from railway station.

 

5.  Kathakali Centre

 

 

If you are traditional dance lover and want to know about all you can visit Kathakali Centre. It is derived from Hindu epics Mahabharat and Ramayan.

The Kathakali Centre provides the artists to prepare for the classical dance.

6.  Princess Street- street shopping and cafes
