Mysore is also known as Mysuru. It is situated in South Central Karnataka state, southern India. Bangalore is the capital of Mysore. Its geo-graphical coordinates are 12 degrees, 18 minutes 26 seconds north and 76 degrees, 38 minutes 53 seconds East.

Aadi Yaduraya Wadeyar was the King of Mysore in 1399 CC.

Raja Chamaraja Wadiyar, who ruled from 1513 to 1553, built a small port and named it Mahisuranagara (Kanada for Buffalo Town), from which Mysore gets its name.

Maharaja Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar founded the independent State of Mysore in 1947. Kannada, Tamil, Hindi and English are spoken in Mysore.
